This is a photo of excavations at the site of Erongaricuaro, Michoacan, Mexico during the summer of 2001. The research at the site was led by Dr. Helen Pollard of Michigan State University. In 2001 we conducted a surface survey of the site to delineate the extent of occupation, particularly in the Postclassic Period (900-1520 AD), as well as excavating several test pits in order to attempt to locate Postclassic residences and determine if there was a long history of occupation at the site. In the pits shown in the photo, we uncovered part of an Early Classic (ca. 300-500 AD) house, most likely one belonging to a person of some importance in the ancient village.
